Yes, I do it all the time - I don't have a cell phone, but I message my friends from my Mac laptop using my email program (putting their cell phone numbers in the recipient space) - they receive my messages on their iPhones, and their replies come to my email address. I imagine the same can be done on a PC.

What you're doing is called iMessaging - only works on iOS (iphonea) and OSX (Mac computers) not on PCs (At least I don't know a way to do it on PCs)

I still use a flip phone, not a smart phone, and texting on it is real tedious. I will try to above since I have a Mac. No desire for a smart phone at this time.

The SCI-Nurses are advanced practice nurses specializing in SCI/D care. They are available to answer questions, provide education, and make suggestions which you should always discuss with your physician/primary health care provider before implementing. Medical diagnosis is not provided, nor do the SCI-Nurses provide nursing or medical care through their responses on the CareCure forums.

I do it using Skype, but it is not free. Also, you can send, but cannot receive.
I don't have a cell phone at all. I am sitting in front of a computer all day at work & at home. Send me an email, or call me on Skype number. If I am not in front of computer, it is time to have some break. Don't bother me.

Interesting, thought perhaps I was the last person with a flip phone. I have a lot of technology in the house ( mostly Apple) . I have maintained a landline and I guess I feel when I am out and about I don't need to be "online". I do send pics over to my PC when friends text them to me.
