    Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum

Has anyone else ever had sputum results come back with this:
    CORYNEBACTERIUM PSEUDODIPHTHERITICUM

It's a new one for me.

This bacteria is in the same genus as the bacteria that causes diphtheria. While it is resident in many people's respiratory tract, it rarely causes an infection except in people who are immunocompromised or have chronic pulmonary infections (such as in cystic fibrosis). Do you have any symptoms of pneumonia or pharangytis (sore throat)? Have you been taking meds that might cause immunosuppression? Have a disease that is associated with immunosuppression? There is some evidence that SCI can depress the body's immune system, so that may be a factor.

I feel pretty crappy. Weak and lots of suction. No immunosuppressant meds, just a generally pathetic immune system.
