Wheelchair vs bike tyres and wheels

Are they measured the same way? I've been trying to get 25inch tyres for my chair, so I ring them up, get told, "Yeah. We have them in stock." Go to store to buy them. To be told "Who told you we had that size?". It's happened 4 times. I go to local wheelchair reseller and get told "we dont have those... It's gonna take a month to get them from America...". almost dropped au$500 on a pair of 26" bike rims thinking I'd always be able to get tyres and tubes for that size. Then I realise "Chair geometry". Omg...

Use the ETRTO size of your wheel.. it measures to the bead.. and you'll be sure you have a tire that fits your rim.
Basically a standard wheelchair
24" wheel is 540
25" wheel is 559
26" wheel is 590
27" wheel is 622

You'll have plenty of choice in bike shops, as many MTB use the same size…

You need to consider wheel rim width as well. A mountain bike 559 is also called a 26 but typically are wider rim for a wider mtb tyre. To further confuse things 27/622 erto is the same erto as 700c road bike wheels and 29 inch mtb wheels. https://www.evanscycles.com/coffeest...d-measurements is a useful guide.

Unfortunately the mountain bike tyres dont come in 1". They are usually well over 2". Not gonna fit on my rims

If you are using 25" wheels then the current tires on your wheels have the ETRTO 559-25 (something close to 25 depending, that's the width) stamped on them somewhere then they have a 559 bead.

Then as long as you buy your tires using the Etrto sizing they will fit your rim.
As an example I took these pictures for another experiment.. but all of the wheels are wheel chair wheels either 25", 26" or 27" and 1" wide. The pictures are demonstrating using different tires I'm accomplishing a 27" outside diameter on the tires no matter which rim I am using.

I run Bike tires all the time. I realize you are not here in the states but I would think you would have the same selection if not more over there. Australia doesnt use the ERTRO measurement system and websites with conversion tables confuse me no end. Mainly because they're focused on bike sizes. I heard tho, that a 25" wheelchair tyre is actually a 26" bike tyre. I most definately might be wrong tho. I found out that 26" tyres are hard to come by as well.
