I've gotten many a jury summons with a threatening tone to attend, yet strangely nothing ever happens when those letters just leap into the garbage can before I get a chance to read them.

It is both a right and obligation as a citizen to serve on a jury. While a hardship deferment may be appropriate for some due to their disability, those who can and want to serve should not be excluded.

I did not want to make any waves so I just went along with what the judge said. I have been in court for other things and in a small town you don't want to make waves. That was like 20 years ago. Today I could not sit that long anyway. Better to let a dead dog lie in my state.
