    Minivan power ramp repair?

After 14 years of faithful use the power ramp in my mini van needs repair. I can hear the gears in the motor assembly skipping and was wondering if anyone has any experience replacing one of these motors? What can I expect, is it any more difficult than replacing the actuator on a power hospital bed? Just need a general idea, I understand that all conversions are not the same. My vans is a ROLLX 2003 Chrysler conversion. The replacement motor is $450.

You need to find someone with some automotive repair talent, from my experience these type repairs isn't rocket surgery. And more than likely that motor is a fraction of that price, if you can source it other than from a mobility dealer. The manufactures typically use motors that are used for power windows on older cars.

Good luck finding a non-specialist mechanic to do the work, unless it is done personally at your home or in their personal shop. Even then they would need to know how this stuff all gets together such as that found in the manufacturer's documentation.

Thank you, I have the shop space and the people it's just a matter of scheduling the time. Charley, at the Rollx service department directed me to the link for the service manual. Replacement of the motor requires removing the ramp system from the vehicle. Everything is accessible from the cabin area. Upon install, the ramp will require adjustment. The service Manual is detailed and illustrated, but I recommend a mechanic or someone with strong mechanical aptitude for this repair.

Since I have to have the ramp removed I am going to include replacement of the ramp piano hinge in the repair. Hopefully, I can rid the ramp of an annoying rattling noise.

Fortunately the Rollx service manual is excellent. It covers every adaptive component in their conversion vans in detail.

Just a thought, check around for a good hitch shop in your area. There was one in city that was great with all kinds hitches, lift gates.
They started installing lifts. At one point they bere building strap lifts and like posted above they got motors from source for electric motors in vehicles then got better deal from a electric motor rewind place in the city.
They were easy to deal with, gat appointments with and done great work.
    "Good Luck!"
