A very significant patent war has been brewing between Medtronics and Johnson & Johnson.

Depuy Acromed (a division of Johnson & Johnson) won a final $52 million judgement against Sofamor Danek Group (a division of Medtronics) relating to implants used in spinal surgery. This was affirmed by Federal Circuit on Appeal.

In another lawsuit, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has denied Medtronics petition for a rehearing of a ruling concerning stents. Medtronics states that they will seek U.S. Supreme Court Review on this patent dispute, awarding J & J $271 million in damages.
