Got your "state disability registration permit" handy?

Because apparently you need to have it on you to "legally" operate a motorized wheelchair on the greenways in SC.

im sure they don't enforce it, but wtf? Someone had to come up with that rule... SMH

Who knew? I did a quick internet search, terms: "state disability registration certificate" and then "state disability registration certificate south carolina." The only thing I found was registering to vote and registration for a handicapped parking placard or license plate. It doesn't appear as though a person with a disability has to some how register with the state of S. Carolina, just because they have a disability, which is what this sounds like. Guess the state doesn't want people without a disability operating a wheelchair on their common greens.

It would be a kick to ask your local greens management office about what this means.

    All the best,
    GJ

Looks like that organization got themselves one heck of a street corner lawyer. In the same genre of registered guns, certified emotional support animals, fire hazards, etc. One would hope with the internet nowadays some people would google if they are about to make a fool of themselves

The organization, unfortunately, is the greenville parks and rec department. GHS is just a sponsor so they got their name on the trail.

Kind of surprising you'd need a permit to use a wheelchair on what is essentially a public sidewalk.

Probably someone thought they knew something. Or have a grudge against 3 wheeled scooters driven by old people and lump in wheelchairs to the mix? At any rate, if they can quote electric bike statute but pull wheelchair and disabled 'regulations' out of their asses...whoever made those rules should be on the soon to seek other employment list. Just bad.
