I had the same problem where my legs would jump at night and wake me up. This would happen several times a night then I'd have to be up by 5:30 a.m. to start my day and be in at work by 8:00 a.m. This went on for couple of years until I mentioned it to my doctor. He told me, "Why didn't I mention something sooner!"

He prescribed me klonopin or clonazpam 2mg. It is a non-addicitive form of Valium. This drug is prescribed for stoke patients where their arm curls up. Using it relaxes the arm down. After a couple days on it my legs were dead still and got a good night sleep. I have been on it for more than 20 years now. Very inexpensive; $4/30 tablets.

Talk to your doctor about this.

Is it spasms or restless leg syndrome or both?
