    foley catheter coatings?

    Hi,

    I use an sp catheter.

Which of these latex coated catheters is best in your experience?

the Bardex with lubricath coating http://www.bardmedical.com/products/...ley-catheters/

    or

the Bardex with the silicone coating http://www.bardmedical.co.uk/Silicon...FoleyCatheters

    Thanks,

    Rob

Our Urologists do not recommend any coating for SPtube (or other catheters unless bleeding or other issues). Just use lubricant.

I don't know if the silicone coating protects you from latex contact, but the lubricath coating doesn't. I used the Bardex Lubricath coated latex catheter in my supra pubic stoma for about 5 years and began to develop a sensitivity to the latex, i.e., rashes, pain at the stoma site. I have switched to the Poiesis Duette catheter and the raahes and pain are gone. You can request free samples at http://www.poiesismedical.com/products/duette/

    All the best,

@sci-nurse I didn't mean that type of coating I meant the coating that is part of the catheter.

@gjnl thanks, that is the type of info I was looking for. I tried the Duette and it didn't work for me. When did you change to the Duette?

Has anyone else tried both types of catheter I mentioned in my first post?

    Thanks,

    Rob

In which ways didn't the Duette catheter work for you?

I changed to the Duette catheter about 10 months ago.

Did the latex sensitivity affect the amount of urine you outputed or increase how often you got a uti?

No, I didn't experience any affect on urinary output or an increase in urinary tract infections. I use HydroCleanse daily and haven't had an infection in some time.

The problem I had was "pain" expressed as autonomia when cleaning the skin around the stoma or when the catheter moved. From the beginning, my stoma has been in great shape, but the latex sensitivity resulted in a red open rash around the stoma. I suspect the same thing was happening inside the bladder especially at the balloon.

    All the best.
