Well it's 67 years of Polio-paralysis and it seems to have gone by quickly. The only thing I'm a bit haunted about is not contacting many outstanding therapists and teachers who helped me along the way. One teacher in particular, in 9th grade - he asked me to meet with him after lunch, and I thought I was in trouble for sure. We met in a classroom where he proceeded to maneuver his large body into a student desk. He glared at me and stated the words I won't forget:
"You're college material". It proved to be the direction I needed to become independent.
