    spinal cord thinning

I was told today that my injury sight is thinning. I am 15 years post injury. How concerned should I be?

Myelomalacia is the term for thinning, softening, or atrophy of the cord tissue. It is not uncommon at or below the level of injury. I assume you had an MRI for some reason? This is the most common way that this is diagnosed. Sometimes it causes no problems, in other more severe cases it can cause lost of motor or sensory function above your original level of injury.

Are you having any neurologic changes? Was your injury complete or incomplete?
