Question Complete quad looking for a way to work a smart phone

I'm a C4/5 quad with no arm/hand movement. I use a mouthstick to work my house phone, remotes, computer etc. and also use Dragon NaturallySpeaking with the computer. I'm looking for a way to use a smart phone. I tried putting a stylus on the end of my mouthstick, but it didn't work very well, I don't know if it was because it was a cheap stylus I bought off ebay or if it's the way all of them would work.

Are there other complete quads out there that work smart phones, if so how?

Regarding the mouthstick-stylus attempt: Most smart phones use a touch system based on capacitance. There must be an electrical circuit from the tip of the stylus to your body. Your body becomes part of the touch system. To do that the stylus and mouthstick must be metal to connect with your body. If your mouth stick is not an electrical conductor, for examples wood or plastic, it would not work. If you do not have a metal mouthstick you might be able to connect a wire to the stylus and run it up to your mouthpiece so that the end of the wire is touching your mouth or lips. (no, you will not get shocked)

How far from your face to your phone would you prefer the stylus to reach?

I use a 7" Joy stylus in my hand for use with my tablet just for overall speed. Able bodied people that have seen me use it bought their own because it makes tablets/smartphones easier to use.

The same company makes a telescoping mouthstick stylus that uses the same material as my small Joy stylus. I haven't used the mouthstick version so you'd have to research on it but it looks decent.

    Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies? I knew the screens worked off of electricity in our bodies, however I did not know that you had to be touching the stylus in order for it to work.

The joy mouthstick stylus did not give very good reviews on Amazon, so I may have to try the wire trick as there is a break in the metal into different spots between my mouth and the mouthstick.

Yeah, they need to fix that issue for sure. How silly of them to miss that important factor with a stylus.

I'll send them a message about it.

Maybe a piece of foil tape for a quick fix. Might even be able to make your own in the meanwhile with foil tape. Maybe even better and lighter.

    Hi DBassman,

What about bluetooth headset? I'm c5-6 and can dial with my pinky knuckle, but with my Jabra bluetooth, I just hold the big button until it double beeps gthen say "Call Whoever" and it will call my pre entered numbers.

That's fine for calling someone, but it doesn't help me with all the other features on smart phone, getting on the web, looking at pictures etc.

I recommend looking into a tecla (http://gettecla.com/). I've used one for almost 2 years now and don't know what I did without it. Allows me to use any feature I could with hands.
