    catheter care

    my patient has a foley cath w a 4000cc bag.he stays alone at night.sometimes it overfills.would it be too risky...for infection to leave the spout open and draining into a bucket overnight?

    i use a nite bag hose adapted to a 5 litre jug.

    No, this is a poor practice; it significantly increases his risk for UTIs. How much fluid is he taking daily that he puts out more than 4000cc. during the night?? This is a huge amount of urine.

    Could you connect another drainage bag to the outlet of the first? I've seen people do this before with a leg bag.
