handcycle question on changing hand crank and handles

I'm looking at used hand cycles. Most seem to be a much greater distance apart than my current freedom cycle which is only 12". I like the 12" if I buy a bike that's has more is it possible to change out the hand crank system, and if so where would I look for a new compatible system? My current bike doesn't have the shifters on the hand grips so I really want to upgrade to one that does. Thanks, any help is appreciated!

Yes, you will be able to change the wide on a handcycle crank with either a new crank, a spacer, or both. I believe most of the top end cycles come with a 14" wide as a standard width. Which handcycle are you looking to purchase?
