Email the BBC--demand coverage of a real cure

    Hello all.
Following some discussion that went on in an earlier thread, we have prepared an email campaign to the BBC asking that they give better coverage to the "real cures" which will someday be possible with regenerative medicine.

This is in regards to the Longitude Prize's voting over the trying to fix the world's problems and Paralysis Cure is one of the choices. The BBC aired a programme called Horizon and when it got to paralysis cure, it was robots all over the place with hardly a mention of regenerative medicine.

there are arguments on both sides about if we should vote for paralysis cure or not because it's all robot focussed. In planning this campaign we stayed out of the debate.

We are asking for the one thing that most in the paralysis community can get behind (even those who are interested in robots); that the BBC give equal coverage to regenerative medicine when talking about paralysis cure.

A BBC documentary series called Horizon aired on 22 May to introduce the six challenges. Much to our dismay, the segment on paralysis focussed primarily on compensatory devices such a wearable robotic suit with almost no mention of regenerative medicine or cell-based therapies. Prize organisers have highlighted that complications due to paralysis reach further than just mobility and yet the ?solution? to paralysis proposed by Horizon focussed solely on robotic walking. Not bad. 40 came just overnight and i've only put it on jere and haven't direct mailed our past supporters, but we'll have to do better if we want the bbc to write about real cure and not robots. Spread the word.

I wonder if prof. Miguel Nicolelis understand the difference between walking and having your legs "walked" by robotic legs..
