    SP tubers(gross description)

I've had an SP tube for over 20 years. During this time, there's always been some goop (snotty looking) stuff which comes out of the stoma. At times, it almost looks like there are guts coming out. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about. Do others have the same problem?

Without a picture of what your stoma looks like, it is hard to know what you have, but from your description, it maybe hypergranulaton or over granulation. See picture, left side-normal tissue, right side-hypergranulation

Treatment will vary with severity. One recommended treatment that I have read about on Care Cure is the use of silver nitrate. Silver nitrate (95% silver nitrate/5% potassium) can be applied with a stick just to the over granulated area.

    All the best,

Are you having trouble like GJ described or more of a drainage problem?

It looks like the pic on the right with yellow goop coming out.

The yellow discharge is part of the hypergranulation process (the body is constantly trying to heal the wound). Over granulation may not be harmful, in and of itself, but you may want to have a wound care specialist look at it (if your urologist won't do any thing to treat it) to determine what treatment is best. This tissue is soft and bleeds easily (staining clothing) and may be more of a irritating problem than dangerous. The application for silver nitrate is generally considered a common treatment.
Here are a couple threads that have appeared on Care Cure about hypergranulaton:

    All the best,

I have nothing to add to GJ's rcommendations. Luckily, this is generally a problem that can be taken care of in a simple manner, rather than may steps. It is more of an annoyance than a major medical problem.
