    Gerd

I have gerd so bad that I asperate on my own stomache acid. I take protonix for this but it don't seem like it's getting better. It seems like it's getting worse. Any suggestions on how to get the under control. My Ent says my esphogus is hardening .

Have you seen a gastroenterologist? He/she may order an upper endoscopy or other tests to see how your esophagus is working and check for stomach acid content. It may be possible that you are not producing enough stomach acid, which I understand can be just a bad as having too much.

Meanwhile try not to eat too close to bedtime, go easy on anti-inflammatory meds, fatty foods, caffeine, tobacco and alcohol. Can you raise the head of your bed when you sleep?

    All the best,
    GJ

I have been in chair 43 years, I avoid using belts most of my clothes have elastic waists. Sitting is just bad for digestion. I also use Ranitidine (generic Zantac) 150 mg twice daily with good results. I agree that elevated headrest in bed is very effective. Be sure to be evaluated by GI specialist.

Agree with all of the above. See a GI provider if your symptoms have not improved. They may try a different medication or recommend an upper GI test to look at your stomach lining, esophagus. Make sure you have been tested for H Pylori which is a bacteria that can lie in your stomach lining and contribute to GERD. It is treated with antibiotics along with a proton pump inhibitor like prilosec etc. Not eating close to bedtime, laying off the alcohol and fried foods, and raising head of bed all help. Keep a journal if necessary to see your diet, activity, etc that set it off.

No h pylori I test negitive. ENT and GI are working together. I have massive post nasal drip that's making my stomache free out and produce too much stomache acid and my right nasal passage collapsed so now we are going to do surgery on that as well to make it easier to breathe since I only breathe out of the left side of my nose. Also gonna start some new meds I forget what they called my acid reflux it's not just gerd it's called something else. It has messed with my esophagus and vocal cords and lungs. So we are adding some other meds. They want to let it heal and it could take a couple years to fully heal. This is a dam nightmare! They said that they are going to watch me closely to make sure it improving.!

Having doctors in two different specialties working to help you with this problem is terrific. Hope the new meds help and that you heal as quickly as possible. Check back in and let us know how you are doing.

    All the best,

Water can set it off! It's horriable! One day I'll be fine the next I won't. I hope this resolves soon and I can not have to deal with this
