    Advancement in motor tech

    Just a nerdy post... saw this on Google+ earlier.

    This motor, which is only 9 inches in diameter, is the only motor in the Tesla Model S.



    9" diameter, 150 lbs AC induction motor, 416 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.

    If you're not familiar w/ Tesla, the motor above is what makes this fully-electric car move:



    Are there any implications for the wheelchair industry? Imagine what a tiny 2" version of this could do...

    Awesome. My Father in Law is having a Model S built right now. Should be delivered to his house just before Thanksgiving. Can't wait to get a closer look! That motor is something else.

    416 hp! I've only seen electric motors with that kind of power on industrial equipment. And they are huge things that need to be moved around with hoists.

    That is really impressive. I wonder if that motor is the same one in Model Three.
