Question Where's the best SCI Rehab for chronic SCI (30+ years)

I'm a c4/c5 quad (injured 1982) and have been unable to find medical assistance in my area who can help me with bilateral hip pain. The SCI rehab in my area has collapsed since our University closed their Medical Rehab Department.

I'd like to find the best rehab center in the U.S., or at least a top 5 list to research. I'm hoping to get a complete re-evaluation of my condition, seating, likely time for a new wheelchair, and identify the source of the pain.

Then, maybe they can set up a therapy routine or other treatment that might minimize the pain.

Where's the best chronic sci rehab? How can I find information that will identify, and help me choose, an institution with a great program for chronic spinal cord injury.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA is top of the line! Call and find out about "the day program." It sounds like exactly what your looking for and ATL is awesome. I've been twice and got soo much out of it.. I wish I lived closer. Its beyond a rehab, I never got to do so many great things. Its like college for sci.. Every sci should experience it.

You have a daily schedule that includes pt,ot,classes on sci, weight training, wheelchair endurance, ect. and then they have awesome outings. They had me even scuba dive with whale sharks n sharks at the ATL aquarium for example.

The best part about it is covered by most ins companies for up to 3 weeks and they provide you the living(and its nice). If you want more info message me cuz I can go on and on about it.

I'm partial to Kessler rehabilitation in West Orange New Jersey. I've been going there for over 25 years and their doctors are just incredible.

I've heard about Shepherd, but I thought they focused more on acute injuries and lower levels than mine. I've also heard of Chicago's "Second Look" program and was going to do more research on that also.

    Any additional knowledge is appreciated.
