Anban I would get together with you so you could try out my freedom rider hand cycle. Its not set up for quads, but I'm sure we could at least get you set out with one gear to see if its really something you would like. I've got a pretty good idea of what it would take after reading about the other quads and there setups and various injury levels.

Challenged Athlete Foundation gives out grants. If you're a veteran non-serviced connected injury may still be qualified for one.

what kind of riding are you interested in?

i.e., if you didn't have the SCI, would you look for a road bike, hybrid, or mountain bike?

my level is C6 and I ride one of these:

man i would love to have a off-road bike since I grew up Racing Dirt bikes but we just don't have enough areas without driving a distance to go ride.

where as my Force R I can take off and head out the driveway and im gone for hrs.

UCLA has an adaptive sports program, they are having a hand cycling clinic tomorrow, sat June 9 - here's a link to their program info. http://www.recreation.ucla.edu/insid...1-1ee02e1af0fa

Check out another local group - Triumph Foundation - they do a lot of different types of events all over So Cal. (they are how I heard about the UCLA program).

Most trails require a 15-20+ min drive for me as well, though there are a few within riding distance in local parks. The offroad handcycles do fine in urban environments, just as mountain bikes do. They sit up taller, but they don't go as fast.

The transfer is level too, which makes a difference for quads.
