Thread: Hello My Dear CareCure Family

  1. #91
I popped back here today, after being gone for several years, only to be told of this thread and the sad news. Obie, you and your family have my heartfelt sympathy at this difficult time. May you and all those who loved Bill find peace and solace in your memories of him. This poem has always brought me comfort; I hope it comforts you as well.

    And if I go,
    while you're still here...
    Know that I live on,
    vibrating to a different measure
-behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
    You will not see me
    so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when
    we can soar together again,
    -both aware of each other.
    Until then, live your life
    to its fullest.
    And when you need me,
    just whisper my name
    in your heart...
    I will be there.
    ~~Colleen Hitchcock

    With love and hugs,
    Vicky/SCI Mom

    Death Is Nothing At All
    Canon Henry Scott-Holland, 1847-1918

    Death is nothing at all.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
I am I and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
    that, we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name.
Speak to me in the easy way you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
    Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we always enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort,
without the ghost of a shadow in it. Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
    There is absolute unbroken continuity.
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you for an interval
    somewhere very near
just around the corner. All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

Given to me by another CC member years ago, I now pass it along to you Joyce. It is a favorite of mine and has given me comfort in times of great loss.
With my deepest sympathies and sincere respect,

Your life has undoubtedly been made richer by the love you had for one another, and that is something that cannot be lost. I hope you are able to find solace in that, as you work your way through this difficult patch on your journey. All the best.

Have you ever noticed a tree standing naked against a sky, how beautiful it is?
All its branches are outlined, and in its nakedness there is a poem, there is a song. Every leaf is gone and it is waiting for the spring.
When the spring comes it again fills the tree with the music of many leaves,
Which in due season fall and are blown away; and that is the way of life.

Obi, I am really saddened to hear of Bill's death. It is amazing how we can feel like we know someone through posts on the forums, and I feel like I have lost a friend. May sound morbid, but it is wonderful that he died quietly at home with you nearby and did not linger long. As I have aged, I have come to accept that death is a natural, if sad, part of life, and Bill went out as I would like to. All my love to you and your family.
