    Two high school...?

    http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013...ct-sunday?lite

Apparently two "high school football players" are accused of raping a 16 year old girl. My first question... what difference does it make whether or not they were "football players." Rape is rape, right? Peons are peons, right? Is there some sort of "status" associated with football player? or some sort of stereotype?

my second question...where the hell were the parents of these high school minors, and this 16-year old minor when she was out drinking like mad and getting herself raped? Aren't parents responsible for their children's well being? Aren't they as liable for her getting raped as the kids that apparently raped her? and the parents that let THOSE little peons out on the streets?

a minor is a minor. I don't care WHAT your parents make every year. I don't care WHAT you do after school. Parents should be responsible, parents should be liable.

I guess the parents of a 16 year old who gets herself hurt in a car accident or shot at the mall when it closes are liable? To who?

And if my kid beats up your kid.....then both sets of parents are liable? One for the bad acts and the other for not protecting their kid?

yes and yes... if your kid rapes a minor, you are liable if NOT in criminal court, at least for a civil suit. Those parents should have picked their kids up wherever they were at, and taken them hope for bed at 9pm from wherever they were at. That's what "custody" implies...protective and and guardianship. Parents should take responsibility for their brats, until said brats are 18..end of story. They spawned them. They raised them. Their "educated" them. And they should take responsiblity

    you got it!

end of story. If you don't want the responsibility then don't spawn. Or give your kid up for adoption

Sure, keep them under lock and key until they are 18 then let them loose on the world. That works.

I didn't take the bait, but this reminded me of something that happened in my town this week ... kids (well, a 14yr old, 17, 18 & 19yr old) were caught breaking into a school (it was our March Break this past week). Two were spotted just as they exited the building and police shouted orders, mentioned they had the police dog several times and the kids kept running.

Unfortunately, the 14y/o thought he could outrun a dog. I'm reminded of how once they lock jaws, they tear back and forth ... that's gonna leave a mark! lol

He was apparently taken to hospital with minor injuries. Waiting for the impending lawsuit and case law in 3 .. 2 ..

It might be easier on the parents. Imagine...

    Parents - "Happy 18th Birthday!"

Boy living in an isolation bubble who has never been out of his room - "I love you Mom and Dad, you are the best parents!

Parents start going around unplugging things and deflating the bubble.

Boy - "Wait, STOP! What are you doing?"

Mom - "Oh, don't worry, you never needed any of this stuff."

Dad - "We got the idea when you started to crawl and get into stuff. This was easier than childproofing."

Mom - And you were such an angel! Never breaking our stuff, never staying out late, no girls, no expensive TV or video games."

Boy - " TV? Video games?"

Mom - "Oh, you are going to have such fun discovering all the things in the world that were just too much trouble to tell you about!"

Dad starts packing a few things into a brand new suitcase. "For your birthday we got you this nice suitcase. It has rollers so you can pull it."

    Boy in tears - " I don't understand..."

Mom - "Aww, my little baby, don't worry, we've arranged a special way for you to learn about everything! In a few minutes Sergeant Recruiter is going to be here to drive you to a new place with lots of new friends.

    ...

Mom and Dad wave from the porch. Dad - "He doesn't know our address or phone number, does he?"

Mom - "I told him we live in a totally different city."

People need to be responsible for their:

    own actions
    kid's actions
    dog's actions
    guns

Getting herself raped? Blaming the victim here is not helpful and parents cant lock their kids up at night. 16 years is an age for most teenagers when risk taking and experimentation is prevalent. I really do dislike the attitude of blaming everyone except the perpetrators.

Sunday 17 March, 10 am EDT:
Judge Thomas Lipps has found both defendants delinquent on all three charges. This is similar to a guilty verdict in an adult court.
Rape is a crime. Period. It has a perpetrator who is responsible. The victim is innocent of anything other than the bad judgement of drinking excessively. The parents of all involved were lax in their oversight, but the only criminals are the rapists.

Lawyers for the two boys, who could be sent to juvenile jail until they are 21 if they are found guilty, have denied the charges and said that any sex was consensual.
No consent can be possible when one party is unconscious.

Don't try to give excuses. Rape is rape. It does not matter what she was wearing, it does not matter if she was drunk. The only possible mitigating factor is consent.

The case deeply divided the town, whose powerhouse Steubenville High School football team has been a source of pride amid gloomy economic conditions.

Mr. Mays and Mr. Richmond were rising stars in the football program, and some Steubenville residents have complained about a culture that protects the team
WTF? Half the town thinks this is ok because the football team made them feel empowered in hard times.

But the blatant arrogance and hubris of her attackers, posting pictures and bragging secure in their own sense of self-importance is staggering. These boys have committed an act that will traumatize the victim for years to come if not for life.

Those pictures - which are in fact child pornography - are already out on the web. That genie is never going back into the bottle. This victim is going to have sick perverts getting off while looking at pictures of her violation.
