SCI get the feeling of being used?

Disability to some, source of revenue to others. Our old friend, ADA.
Referenced example of how we are worth so much more in our chairs to lawyers, while simultaneously likely despised by many merchants whose businesses we'd like to patronize.

I actually spoke to one of those lawyers (I don't remember if it was the same one in the article) at the last AbilitiesExpo. He kept claiming he wasn't actually in it for the money, just firmly believed that the world should be made accessible for his beloved disabled friends and family and the only means to do so was to force business owners into compliance through lawsuits. So I asked him if he took on other kinds of disability rights cases or against larger targets (say, access to accommodations at universities, employment discrimination, or appealing cuts to home care services) and the answer was an emphatic no. Think that says it all. If he was really on the side of the disabled, he'd realize that not being able to access the occasional restaurant is actually small potatoes compared to the rest of the ways society can trample on us.

Up here in the Great White North we don't have ADA-like legislation, so we have to get over the feeling of being ignored instead of being used
