"When I was a normal person in the world"

I preface this way some of my discussions about how I used to live.

Katie's response today: "What are you now? A cucumber?"

How would you characterize who you are today in the world?

I offered. "I now am the unfortunate recipient of a few too many occasions to demonstrate fortitude."

With my friends we referred to my paralysis as "The Events of 4/29" in a mock-sombre reference to "The Events of 9/11".....followed always with a mock sombre face of mourning.......

I would throw it into any conversation in a normal voice with ".....well of course, prior to The Events, I would have taken my bike..." At which point one of my pals would say "ahhh The Events.." and we would all pause in sombre rememberance, before carrying on as normal with the conversation.

It would throw other people just a little

Didn't have the pleasure of knowing you then. But I sure as hell don't think you're normal now. I think you are extraordinary!

One of my favorite quotes is from Camus: "Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal."

    Being normal sucks.

I find myself saying, "in real life..."

Guess I'm still waiting to wake up.

I always call it my other life and separate friends into, 'They knew when I walked,' like it's some ethereal thing, lol. Only had 12yrs of it though so those friends are childhood ones.

It does feel like another life ..

We are all "normal" for us. Everybody is different in their own way, nobody can be considered not normal, what's normal for one person is not normal for another, so we are all "normal" in own unique way.
