    Need a new wireless router

    Can anyone recommend one to me?

    i got a linksys e2500, it has the gigabyte thru put and the usb port to set up your own ftp, its a good router.........

    Thank you, gentlemen (I think – although as a female Randy, I should know better than to presume). What's the difference between a router and a "base station?"

    There is no difference. OTOH, maybe a network engineer will go into the minutia.

    what do you need to do with it? and how many ports do you need if any (hardwired jacks)
    I usually just get the regular 20 dollar ones for family and my house

    e3400 is the one i got, but bruce is right if you don't need any bells and whistles most any will do the trick........

    If you have Apple computers, then I would definitely get an Apple router. Don't ask me why, but when my son switched to the Apple router - Airport Extreme - it made a world of difference. We always had good luck with the Linksys, but for some reason they didn't work in his house. Airport Extreme!!

    Check out FreedomBox firmware

    I have proprietary one and concerned about rock bottom code and back doors. Have not got around to getting box to replace it.
