    question about surgery

i wrote on this forum a little over 1 year ago about my boyfriend (age 52) who had a C5 burst with a vertebral artery dissection, a clot, etc.

Finally hes been cleared to have surgery. Front-Back Fusion. The procedure will be to clean up bone fragments bruising his SC, and to replace C5 C6 and C7 with a synthetic mineral matrix type of bone, then a plate will be screwed over the 3 vertebrae, then there will be 2 rods put in.

Currently and for over a year he has been in constant unrelenting pain. But he does have full use of his arms.

How risky is the surgery? Any pros and cons we should know?

I don't know about the risk factors, but if I were in constant severe pain I wouldn't hesitate to go for surgery. If you decide to take that options, I wish the best for you.

    Good luck to you both.
