    Surgery and Treatment for ALS

    Dear Dr. Huang,
My father is 64 years old and he has ALS. His speech is affected as well as his breathing. He cannot eat without the fear of choking on food nor can he go swimming or laugh too much because he cannot catch his breath. He must also take extra precautions not to catch a cold or cough because of his shortness of breath. His legs are also affected. He needs to walk with a walker. He has been to Venezuela and Mexico looking for treatments and cures, but to no avail. I happened to be watching the evening news last week and I saw a segment regarding a young man with ALS being treated in China and he was noticeably improving. That night I spoke to my father and he was estatic after hearing this. He wanted to book a flight to China the next day. Please let me know if he can become a candidate for this procedure.
