    Question Bladder Stimulator?? Any information??

Does anyone have any information about these? How effective they are, etc... At my last appointment, after having my urodynamics done, it was suggested that I might want to look into this. Any information would be much appreciated!!

If you are talking about a InterStim bladder stimulator, for people with SCI, they only help with preventing bladder spasm and incontinence, and then not for everyone. They do not allow you to be continent, or to void on command. One should always be placed externally first, and then tried for several weeks before having the full implant placed. It has been discussed here before, and most of the members here who tried one had it removed as it did not work for them. It is technically not FDA approved for use in SCI, although it is for MS.

If you are instead talking about the VoCare (Finetech-Brindley) device, that is a much bigger surgery, appropriate only for those with truely complete injuries, and requires the cutting of the sensory nerves from the bladder, bowels, and genitals when the surgery is done. This procedure is rarely done in the USA, but should only be done by a very experienced surgeon.

Here are a few previous posts about the InterStim (use the Search function to find more):

I have one. It does help, but not enough to increase my quality of life. I plan to have it removed as it causes some pain where the battery is.
