    Wheelchair Rugby match

in the lead-up to the Paralympics there are teams in Great Britian right now doing some venue trials. Check out two juggernauts going head to head for the first time ever - Zak Madell and Team Canada vs Riley Batt and Team Australia. Both these kids are absolute beasts and have changed the face of the game.

    April 18, 2012, 5pm Eastern Time, 8pm Pacific at http://paralympics.channel4.com/

If you're not a fan of rugby you will be.

I'm not aware of anything yet, but maybe just to see you. I'll bring my handcycle.

edit: Ohhh, Canada Cup. That looks like something to plan for.

the one and only time I've had to play against Zak.

...and he didn't even through his hips into that one.

I'd play the sport if I wasn't a para, and didn't have full rods in my spine. Some of those hits look like they could jar a rod or two.

Gimme a shout if you're headed to the Cup!

    Hi Kiran,

I'll be in Vancouver again at the Canada Cup in June. Maybe we'll see more of each other this time.

I get the rods part, but not the para. Is wheelchair rugby limited to quads? I want to start, there is a YMCA right across from work that has pickup games every saturday. They going to throw me out because I can juggle?

For competition, yes, you have to have some deficiency of hand function. Hence the name Quad Rugby (though more commonly referred to as wheelchair rugby these days). But for scrimages or pickup games, they might let paras play.
