I will add that I have a referral to see this doctor as she works with Chronic Spinal Cord Injuries:

    http://www.med.unc.edu/phyrehab/facu...ther-walker-md

Dr Cassazza who is listed above her on this page is who I saw earlier this week and who has ordered my MRI on Friday. I will see him on Monday for the results of that.

They both are a part of the Physical Medicine program and I believe my primary referred me to to best of his knowledge....it just sometimes gets tedious being a "passed around patient".

To make things even more confusing they have their own pain management and pain psychologist also....

UNC-Chapel Hill is a huge Health system as I am finding out.

I'm so happy for you! Having a Dr who 'gets it' makes all the difference. I just saw a new geneticist yesterday, and he said he was very happily surprised to see how well I am doing emotionally. Most of the patients he sees with my disorder are at the end of their rope pain wise. I told him he should have seen me 9 months ago! He said he will mention me to help give others with my disorder hope. I said go for it! Tell them I said having a great pain Dr and treatment team makes ALL the difference!! And, they ARE out there. Its taken me years but right now I am finally happy with ALL of my Drs and working towards getting where I want to be in my life.

Great news that it was a good experience. Sometimes it is hard to know what to expect.

Congratulations!!! That's awesome that you found someone too really help. I think that if nothing else just knowing that you have a competent team of specialists that really want to help you would be a big moral boost for sure.

Not trying to steal your threead, but from what I understand the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in California provides a similar service if anyone in California is looking for good post SCI injury rehabilitation and treatment. It took me a year and a half to even hear of this place and I don't know if I'll ever get to go there, but I was told matter of factly by a reputable spinal injury specialist they are the best their is out here. He wouldn't even look at me, just gave me their info and said this is where you belong...

On Monday, I got the results of my MRI which are actually good considering I am 24 years post injury coming up May 5. My fusion and all the bones around it are stable. I have some degenerative disease but normal for my age. He said the nerve pain is probably from nerve degeneration from age and injury. I have no pinched nerves or nerve/spine touching anywhere.

The Topamax has made the intense burning tolerable so for that I am counting my blessings.

My PCP ordered a hip x-ray at my last visit so I asked Dr C to look at it. He said, I think I will let Dr K take care of that. I said well I think he ordered it for you to look at since I don't see him for another 6 months. Dr C was not even going to look at the xray even though part of my pain was from the SI/hip joint. I do have a spur and some inflammation there.

So I went from that appointment straight to the physiatrist who was wonderful, Dr Heather Walker who referred me to a neuro urologist, another doctor for my hip (who is in the same practice as Dr C) and an orthotist for new braces. From that appointment, I went to Orthotics and Prosthetics Department and was cast for new braces from Townsend. I spent about an hour explaining why I would accept no less than a Townsend brace. So hopefully in a month...I will have new braces.

So I am scheduled Friday with a doctor who can do a hip injection like I have had before and osteopathic manipulation. However, I am going to cancel that appointment until I get my new braces. The old braces will keep irritating the hip.

So I am bouncing between doctors...Someday maybe someday....I will get relief. I can see a far away light though

Sounds like things are going well DD. I'm glad to hear it. Your MRI turned out better than mine after just six years. I was worried about that.

Hope you had a good weekend with the kid!
