    Pop's Birthday

My dad died in July after fighting skin cancer for a dozen years. We always called him Dad, but my daughter - his first granchild - called him Pop for some reason, and it stuck. He would have been 88 today, and I miss him a lot more than I thought I would. Happy Birthday, Pop.

Mom and Dad with me in 1947 - probably Easter Sunday in Volga, South Dakota.

That's a great picture, Donno. The loss of parents is so hard and it's impossible to imagine how much they'll be missed - it really hits you over the head on an anniversary or birthday.

NL's parents died at (mother) 66, (father) 80.
My dad died at 72 and my mother is still alive and well and living independently at 98. We are planning to see her in early April.
Parents losing children, Children losing parents, difficult any way you cut it.

    All the best,
    GJ

My dad was born in Mitchell SD. Their family lost their farm during the depression and they came to MN.
My dad passed at 72 in 2000 from a type of Lukemia.
    His birthday is Veteran's Day.
I love seeing era pictures. That is a special one Donno.

Today, the 30th. would have been my Mother's 88th. birthday. I too was an Army brat and lived all over until settleing in Ca in the early '60's. It is interesting to me to find little things in common.

I hear ya on missing one's parents. My dad was called "Pop" also. He preffered to be called that. I chatted with my kids yesterday about Pop's WWII action in Europe. Its good to recall the stories of his and mom's lives. Keeps them alive to me.
