Thread: Very sudden change in bladder....

Question Very sudden change in bladder....

Ok.. so I think its time to have another urodynamics test . I just had one over the summer but I am starting to have a great deal amount of leakage every couple of hours. I am going to guess that this is not normal to have a very rapid change like that? Are there any specific questions I should ask or any ideas I could bring up as far as management goes?? Thanks

What are you doing for high pressures and bladder spasm now? How do you manage your bladder?

I cath every 4-6 hours... depending on my fluid intake. If I drink more then I will cath closer to 4 hours. I currently do not take any meds for spasms or anything.

So when you had urodynamics last, what was your PdetMax? How much bladder instability did it show? You most likely do need to be on medications (anticholenergic meds) to prevent the leakage and high pressures. Most people with SCI and a neurogenic bladder do need them. If they are tried, and don't work, then Botox may be the next step.

My PdetMax value was 55 and the urologist said my bladder instability was mild-moderate. I think your right that meds probably are now needed. I was trying to avoid them .

Your PdetMax should not be over 40 for best long term kidney health.

I was told over 50. Is this old info? Im assuming the best thing to do would be to make an appointment to get values rechecked? Or should I just start trying meds and recheck in a few months?

Talk to your urologist. All research shows that 40 is the "magic number". This is based on scientific physiologic information as well as long term out-come studies.
