Thread: Millions of Americans Living With Paralysis Provided Hope with the Introduction of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act of 2003

  1. #51
If there are any members from New Hampshire, it would be very helpful if you could write a letter to Senator Judd Gregg to urge his support of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Bill. See the following topic for more information.

I just received a personal letter from Michael Bilirakis. Here's the gist of what he said:

    May 29, 2003

Thank you for contacting me to express your support for H.R.1998, the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act. I appreciate hearing from you.

You will be pleased to know that I introduced H.R.1998 on May 7, 2003. I introduced this bipartisan legislation because I felt it was important to enhance our focus on paralysis research, particularly as it relates to paralysis caused by central nervous system trauma and stroke. My bill will help focus research, rehabilitation, and quality of life initiatives supported by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This bill has been referred to the Energy and Commerce Sunbcommittee on Health, of which I am Chairman. You may rest assured that I will continue working with my colleagues on a bipartisan basis to secure the enactment of this important legislation into law....

Here's the latest and time to take action. Take 30 minutes each time you log in, contact a couple of these folks, you'll have it done in a couple weeks. The impact will be great.

Please find below a list of Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee Members (Republicans and Democrats); as well as members of the Health Subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. We are targeting both Committees for co-sponsorship.

IF ANY OF YOUR REPRESENTATIVES ARE ON THESE LISTS, PLEASE WRITE TO THEM ASKING FOR THEIR SUPPORT OF THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE PARALYSIS ACT. (If they are listed as co-sponsors, then write to thank them for their support.) After that, write as many more letters as you have time. Thanks!

Bent, maybe it's just stupid thoughts of me,
but somehow with eyes and stemcells I'd be some less worried with "mutations".

With the eyes (or nearby there) there seems no vital system nearby.
Alone with C1 the brainstem would be straight next, not that I am sure a mutating cell can spread it's kind into there, to wildly proliferate in there, too.

But I get the criticism concerning double standards.

(With eyes I am also not sure, if there are other methods ...
as with spine glial stuff, or that Isreali method.

Although I heard an eerie story / rumour in context with organ theft in India, of someone sort of having his eyes stolen and them used for transplant.
Though I ain't know how much there was to that.)

    Hey, Leo
My email and letter to Senator Gregg were both sent back to me because I didn't have a New Hampshire address. Actually, if I were a senator I'd probably do the same. But you seem to have gotten through to some people. What's your secret?

I am shocked that they sent the letter back. That is so strange. After all, he is a senator that is deciding on legislation that affects all Americans. How in the world can they return mail when it is not from his state? Wise.

    Hi Kilgore,

Here's an email address that might work. I would bet though if we are not from his state that we'll get a reply. But he will get the message.
    mailbox@gregg.senate.gov

Here's his web form comment page,
    http://gregg.senate.gov/sitepages/e-mail.htm

I just sent one to him we'll see if I get confirmation.

    Yeah,
That's where I sent it and this is what I got:

"Thank you for contacting my office. I appreciate the opportunity to respond individually to every letter, phone call and e-mail message sent to my office by residents of New Hampshire. My office has a policy of sending a prompt postal response to New Hampshire residents. Your message was not received by my office due to a missing postal address.
Please resubmit the original text of your message with a New Hampshire postal address included at the top of the body of the message."

Maybe he's the only one ignoring out-of-staters. Have you gotten through to anybody else?

By the way, I talked to someone on my Representative's staff. He looked at the sponsors said he'd never seen such diverse support for a bill.
