The Centre will house a Philips Intera 3.0 T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system which can generate maps of the brain and nervous system. It can also perform specialised scans of the body, such as imaging of the cardiovascular system and imaging the joints for the diagnosis of arthritis. It will be used for both clinical work and research.

This will be the first MRI system of its kind in NSW, and only the third of such strength in Australia.

ı want to learn importance of this MRI SYSTEM

    andy,

The typical MRI magnet is 1.5 tesla. A 3.0 tesla machine will provide higher resolution but it is still nowhere near the resolution necessary to visualize cells and axons.

    Wise.
