Smile Long Beach Marathon 2011 - My First

I just finished my first marathon using a Top End handcycle in 1 hour 28 minutes 33 seconds.

However, they incorrectly listed me under the "half marathon" event, which made me very furious There wasn't even a half marathon handcycle or wheelchair division. According to my Cateye computer, I went 26.55 miles. Not sure how easy it will be to get them to correct my division on the results page.

Edit: the race officials fixed the results Thanks.

Looks like you won the Handcycle division. Great job! Just email the race director, they should be able to fix it for you. Looks like some other's results are screwed up too. There is no way someone did it in under 30 minutes

Were you using an XLT??? If so, dude you got to get a reclining bike and start competing in the USHF.

My thoughts to Heath. Sounds like we got a fast one coming into the ranks. I remember when the Pro was the fastest bike out there.

Yeah I won the Handcycle division. They just fixed the leaderboard, so now I'm on there. They also added a few minutes to my time.

I was going to use my XLT to see what kind of base time I get, but I decided to go with a used XLT Gold that I bought from a guy on this forum a couple of weeks prior to the race. It took me close to two weeks to work out all the bugs, set the crank position, the seat position, the seat angle, etc...

I prefer a more upright seating position as I can get more power to the cranks. I pulled away from the pack on the first hill at the 3-mile mark and was behind the motorcycle escort all the way to the finish line (still had to go around or dodge some slower bicycle riders on the course). My strength is hill climbing, and I guess weeks of hill intervals paid off

Awesome. LB Marathon was my first and so far only marathon last year. Took me over two hours though!
