Menox hand controls in a MINI Cooper

After 11 years post injury, I finally got my first car, a 2012 MINI Cooper S Clubman. Freedom at last! I actually got the car 3 weeks ago, and got Menox hand controls installed in it last week. I've been driving the new car with the Menox for couple of days now and it is such a fun little car to drive. For me, the Menox makes driving easier too, so much easier than the left mounted Monarchs that I trained with in rehab. I feel it is more natural for me to steer with my left hand and control the break/gas with my right, kinda like driving a manual car.

For those thinking about getting a MINI with hand controls, I Just want to let you know that the combination with the Menox works very well, very clean and minimal, and well worth the money.

I miss my Menox controls. They wouldn't work in my Magnum
so I got stuck with the left handed controls. I'm used to them
but I'd switch back instantly if I could.

    Congratulations.

I have Menox controls in my Saturn Ion 3Coupe and think they are great. Much nicer than the left controls in my Van.

    Mini questions

I've been thinking about a mini myself, you got the clubman right?

How do you load yourself and the wheelchair into the vehicle?

I heard that minis have a hard ride, like the shocks are 'stiff', how does your ride?

Those hand controls look pretty good, never heard of them before. Do they take a trained mechanic to install them?

    Thanks.

You Mini loos cool, how about more photos with the chair in the car.

    Hi Garyis,

The MINI is a pretty stiff ride, thats for a fact.

I load the chair by taking off the wheels and pulling the chair frame across my chest to the passenger chair and then put the 2 wheels in the backseat.

The clubman can seat 3 people comfortably. If there are more people riding with me then I just ask them to load the chair to the trunk with 1 back seat folded down.

The Menox will take a trained mechanic to install as they will have to custom fabricate brackets to install the Menox specifically for your car. Menox does not make those brackets, they only make the handles and the linkages. You can also add extra controls to the Menox handles to operate the turn signals, honk, and head lights, and those electricals will take a trained mechanic to install as well.

I found this video on Youtube:

When I get a chance to I will take more pix.

Hi there, I'm only 20 years old but I'm creating my own disabled driving organization - it's growing rapidly everyday and currently features hundreds of pages of useful content you can't find elsewhere.

Visit my hand controls website for more information.

Or you can visit my website's blog where I outline what's happening and my plans for the future.

You can also see my story here.

Can someone send me contact info for their Menox dealer? The 'find a dealer near me' feature on their website is broken.

    thanks!

Look for autoadapt driving systems instead of Menox.

And the dealers page is active....
