    BOSTON/AUSTIN PROGRAMS A SUCCESS!

    New Initiative in Boston

Supporters of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day filled the beautiful Hall of Flags in the State House in Boston. Researchers told stories of progress made through the state-sponsored Spinal Cord Injury Research for a Cure Trust Fund. They also shared the difficulties when funding runs out in the middle on significant advances and stressed how funding is the key to new discoveries. Following the formal program, Dr. Wise Young held a mini-Open House to explain the clinical trials and answer questions.

Based on both the progress and the problems, Dr. Eric Ruby has announced a new initiative to double the traffic fines presently shared between the state and the research but with the increased funding all going toward the goals of "Massachusetts Walks Again."

You can help by asking any family and friends in Massachusetts to write or email their support to: Dr. Eric Ruby, 22 Arbor Way, Taunton, Massachusetts 02780, docruby22@yahoo.com

Packed Room for Texas Open House!

People from all over the state came to the Texas Open House to hear Dr. Wise Young share news of the upcoming clinical trials at the flagship hospital in Austin. One participant came directly from a 5k race! Questions stopped only when Dr. Young had to dash to catch a flight.

At the preceding Texans for Stem Cell Research Seminar, one of the keynote speakers, Dr. Ken Shine, said that a specific challenge today is that, "All science must be ethical, not political." While the president of the Texas Heart Institute Dr. James Willerson, summed up the present state of the stem cell field by saying, "We will be successful!"
