An Awkward moment at the airport

My airport experience in the late 90's, CAN you relate?

This happens to me all the time, but I don't feel it's inconsiderate in any way. Keep in mind that the vast majority of people using wheelchairs in airports can stand and walk short distances. This includes the elderly, people with severe asthma, heart conditions, MS, broken bones, etc. I find it to be perfectly acceptable to be asked that question.

Also, I can barely hear your voice over the music in your video. Just something to monitor for next time.

    Good luck with the blogging.

I dont use a chair except at the airport. I cannot walk with any speed, and I get stepped on or bumped about in crouded places. I havnt been asked to get out or stand up.

I've had pretty good experiences with airplane travel in the wheelchair ... only one experience where an employee at the counter was rude. I haven't been asked to stand up.. the people who help me onto the boarding (aisle) chair ask if I can walk or stand, just so they know how to help me. Most have been professional and well trained and haven't lost the chair yet.

Loads of people - admittedly often older than you - use wheelchairs but can stand.

    Several SCIs can.

I don't think they're being stupid but it is lazy communication.

Ideally they'd ask: 'Are you able to stand?'
