Thread: virus or some process running in the background?

virus or some process running in the background?

I have a WindowsXP box that is having some issues. About an hour or so after startup (sometimes way sooner or way later though) a Microsoft Runtime Error box pops up. It does this even with no applications running. When I click "Yes" to debug, the error seems to be a JavaScript error within a web page from creditreport.com... so I'm assuming this is some type of adware? The task manager does not show any instance of ieexplore.exe running so I'm not sure which process is making the request to the creditreport.com server.

Does anyone have any suggestions for resolving this issue? I have run scans with Norton Security Suite and Webroot SpySweeper and neither has found or fixed this.

    Thanks,

    -dave

U right might be right adware or a program or and apps that didn't completely install or uninstall...

Try using windows restore. Or try computer.net for some answers...GL

    Hello Dave,

A couple of programs which I have used on my and my friends computers is MalwareBytes and ccleaner.exe. These are both free programs to download.

    Good luck Dave.

PS: You will notice your computer will run faster after running Ccleaner.
