video of me walking in paralell bars/ kafo braces

I am aking for help from anyone. This si the first time I have walked in Paralell bars since rehab in june. I am a T10 imcomplete 8 months post. I am not sure what muscles are doing what? I have no therapy available. My theapist would not ask for more she said I was done. I cant affod paying for it. my medicaid has cancelled because they say I make too much money in disability. I spent every dime on these paralell bars and kafo braces. I am all on my own and I need to know more about my injury and my therapy. Its either sit in a chair or get up and work to get back on my feet. any advice would be wonderful. I am very nervous about all this and i just want to do the best I can to get back on these feet. Thank you very much!

I am no expert by any means, but it looks to me like you're doing great, especially in light of the fact that you only finished rehab in June! To me, your posture looks good and both sides of your body look balanced on the parallel bars - others will be along who know more about your specific injury and ways to rehab, but I just wanted to say that I understand how scary it is to be cut loose from a supervised rehab program, and I applaud you for getting the braces and parallel bars and working on your own. I am appalled - though not surprised, given the state of our health care system - that you have been denied further therapy! Maybe there is a way to fight that decision, I certainly hope so. Best wishes to you.

You look great, the only advice I can give is practice, practice, practice. You have def shown that you won't take this sitting down (sorry bad pun) so get up there and keep practicing. I hate it that you have to spend your last dollars on this equipment but don't let them win. Keep at it and take pictures of the look on the therapists faces when you walk back in there and show them what you have accomplished on your own! AND keep us posted too.

I just started with kafo braces. Do your braces have hinges that release and go rigid. I find that it is very hard to step just right to work those hinges. I assume that you are doing other rehab on your own beside trying to walk. Its important to work on strengthening muscles that help you walk. If you could find a good sci pt. and get one or two visits, they can give you a good set of exercises for what you have. After that you really don't have to go back for a long time.
If you can't find a good sci pt, then try and make a chart of what muscles work. Then figure out a way to work them. Try to roll your legs strait. work on any muscles that will keep your legs strait with the parallel bars.
Good luck and keep at it.

Keep it up. It's nice to get them legs going but make sure to spend some time going slower, concentrate on making them legs do it the right way. Yea I know they won't. Do your best to try and step up straight and tall onto each leg. Do you have a large work out ball? They are great for core body work. Lots and lots of core work than more.
Get on floor, than your side. Can you pull knee toward chin some? How about when someone supports knee and ankle? If you can move some of that, work it like you stole it.
Most important. Don't fall and break something on yourself. You must work on the return you get not nurse a broken leg. You and I are still very new lots can happen.

yeah my braces have hinges that are very hard to lock. I just took them to a specialist, he is putting on new hinges on both sides of the brace. right now there only on one side. He said that its not very good to have just a lock on one side because it can bend the rod.

thanks! Yeah i told someone the other day that I dont care if someone breaks into my house and steals everything, just leave the paralell bars and braces and I can handle the rest. It's so funny that if I had insurance that would have paid my therpist would have did everything to keep me in therapy! It's all about that money! I get that, and I understand why it is. I just want to get ther best therapy (living room therapy) i can get. So its up to me to learn and know about these things. If i dont walk i dont, but no one will ever say I didnt work at it!

Are you able to use any of ab muscles? Quad muscles? Hips? What function do you have below your waist? Knowing what muscles you can use is the Best way to figure out what works and what doesn't.
    Never Give Up!
