What are the benefits of Handcycling?

I go to a gym that does not have a handcycle and I'm going to write an email to the vice president. I want to give her as many benefits as I can.

What benefits can you think of? Aside from social benefits.

    Thank you for your help.

    Benefits of handcycling:
    - improve strength and endurance
    - gives a cardiovascular workout, and by using smaller muscles (arms vs. legs) gets the heartrate up quicker
    - if it's a community gym, it can have a seat that is removable so it's for all members
    - if it provides resistance forward and backward (like the SciFit model) it is a total upper body workout

    Good luck!

I read a study in a medical journal explaining the positive effects on cardiac patients. Eveidently using upper body ergometers is a better cardio workout. It make the heart pump blood through smaller capillaries.
Stationary handcycles also increase shoulder flexibility, strength and endurance as well as being great for injury preventation and rehab. My gym bought 4 kranks and everybody uses them. A boxer trains on them religiously and I know an America's Cup sailor that uses them to prepare for grinding on big boats!

doesn't require using legs is a big benefit
