pd, this isnt about throwing money at research.
the poll is showing a huge profit can be made from the
group that finds the cure. the results so far is not what
    i expected.

    ahhhh I see Da...

...I understand your post a bit better now.

Still, the 8 billion you suggest will be spent by the patients to recieve the cure can only be calculated that way if you actually believe that everyone will be able to afford to pay.

We here on the internet are the elite of the sci community. The facts are that the majority of sci'd folks don't have access to the internet like we do. The facts are that the majority of sci'd folks don't have a personal health insurance plan and even if they did I doubt very much that the entire cost would be paid out. The logic that "if they cured us it would save them money" is only a reality IF the cure fixed us 100%. Now I know you don't agree DA but the majority of sci'd folks feel that a partial cure is more realistic, especially in the early stages...this means that even after forking out the dollars for a cure the insurance companies will still be on the hook for the cost of the partial care.

For the majority of sci'd people the reality of a cure is not ONE single treatment, the reality of a FULL CURE is one of multiple treatments that may or may not be synchronized for our needs.

Lastly...the 8 billion dollars you propose to be an incentive for others to push for a cure is only a drop in the bucket when compared to the billions of profit being made if we stay in the chairs.

    pd,
20,000 is not that much. the price of a van.
its affordable. besides we spend more than 20,000 a year
    on care anyway....

    It'll be way more...

...than 20 grand DA. You'll be lucky if 20 grand covers the cost of rehab.

I have no sort of insurance to cover it - in my current ituation it would have to be virtually free

too much body damage after 20 years I think for any effective treatment
