researchers and companys;the monetary reward for finding a cure.

researchers have made giant steps toward the cure of sci paralysis
with a very small budget. not 1 billion combined has been
spent on sci research in the past 22 years. however with a population
of 400,000 sci and a cure costing $20,000 to apply, a profit
of $8 billion is the result.

we would all give a lot for a cure. however how much
can we afford to pay for a cure?

i can only afford a cure if the cost is:

    interesting poll ...

...but I still don't think that throwing money at a problem will guarantee a cure.

Look at all the millions, perhaps billions spent on cancer...and still no cure.

PDC. On your cancer comment. Many different types of cancer. Striking millions. Therefore much more time, $$$ needed.

Sci, although unique for everyone in terms of type of injury tends to have pretty consistent post injury problems, i.e. bladder, bowel, pain, etc. And therefore, imho, an easier task towards a cure. Believe me, enough money thrown at sci there will be a cure. The medical community does not economically benefit from prolonging effective therapies. We are too small of a market. In fact I would venture to guess that the pharmaceuticals, biotechs, etc. have more economic incentive to cure us rather than perpetuate our injuries. Mainly, because once sci is solved other cns maladies will benefit and vice-versa. The markets for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, are big and will continue to get bigger as the baby boomers age (at least 10-15 yrs or so before the max).

Yes, money and demographics will solve the sci problem and many more. Supply and demand will always drive our economy.

    Onward and Upward!
