Heat Wave Sweeps Across the U.S.

A shroud of high pressure has taken a foot-hold over the U.S. from the Plains to the Northeast, and with it has brought temperatures well into the 90's and 100's for half of the country. This animation shows the predicted daily high temperatures from NOAA's high resolution North American Model (NAM) from July 13-21, 2011.

You can have it back Van Quad!!! The city I live in broke a record from 1953 this week for the most days over 100 degrees. I think we are at 27 or 28 days now. There is a town about 2 hours to the southeast of me that has been over 100 for over 50 days so far this summer.

My computer has more messages than I have ever received from the weather alert site warning that today greater Boston could reach 102 F and with a heat index of 110 F. Yikes. It is miserably humid too. Real swamp weather.

If it wasn't for the brutal record-breaking high temperatures, Vancouverites would be complaining bitterly about the cold summer. As it is, it's a lot easier to wear a extra couple of layers than it is to try to cool off from extreme heat & humidity.
