Thread: hotels annoy me

  1. #21
The town the tourn is in actually has no hotels. We are staying in the next town over. There are 6 hotels, 3 of them have limited hc accessibility. This one in particular has 107 rooms, 5 are accessible but only one has a roll in shower (really annoying she said they only have one shower chair, she thinks). There are 5 family suites, 5 jacuzzi suites, 56 have 2 beds, 36 have king sized beds. I feel like I am throwing a baby fit, but I am tired of not having the same opportunities as anyone else. I can not ask the entire team to spend more money and be further away from the ball field just so I can have 2 beds.
We are just going to have to stay somewhere else, which means we miss out on the camaraderie and means my son won't want to stay with me at all and why should he?
If you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Even major cities have issues. Columbus Ohio is where I got the shower chair/craftsman workbench on wheels to take a shower on. Chicago had an issue, Indianapolis, IN and Louisville KY all had at least one or two issues. I don't expect everything to be perfect, but come on. I so appreciate those before me who fought for curb cuts, etc. But apparantly we need to keep fighting and make things better and actually enforceable. I had a great experience in Daytona Beach, Washington DC, and in Hilton Head, SC I travel quite a bit and get tired of annoyances.

Because I am bored I called 20 random hotels to see which ones had more than one bed in a room or a suite that was accessible. Only 2 This makes me sad. And even more sad that none of us really care to make enough of a stink about it to fix it. We are so compliant about this is just our situation and "how it is".

I find this a little off-putting. For most injustices in the world (and there are far, far too many for all of us to make a stink and fix all of them) there are also people working to right them. There are task forces, research committees, legislators, ILCs and advocates working on this sort of thing all the time.

And many people who aren't serving on committees and volunteering or being paid to try to right the world's wrongs are calling hotels and letting them know that there's a desire and a market for services and resources that the hotels are not currently offering.

Please don't tar everyone with the "you don't really care" brush.

I've bitched about many times to the hotel chains where I encounter this problem, they just keep giving me hotel points and a, "I'm sorry"

Nothing changes unless we start filing official complaints and follow through. And who has time for that??

I can deal with the older ones. Its the ones that are brand new that make me angry. Keeping costs down? When I go somewhere else they lose money. I guess just not enough since we are carrying around sleeping bags and putting up with it. Sometimes you just have to take the first place you get.

My MIL found a newer Hampton Inn in Rogers MN that actually had a HC room large enough for the hoyer lift to turn and the legs fit under the bed. There were 2 queen beds and also was an joining room available. The beds were on wheels so could be pushed to make more room if needed.
