    Frustrated

For a year now I've been trying to find a solution to the extreme abdominal pain I have without any results. I've been to the ER numerous times, I've had numerous CT scans and most recently had a colonoscopy. I was told I have a mild case of diverticulosis and to try a fiber diet which I've been doing for the last three months without any change in abdominal pain.
The pain is 24/7 and gets worse a few hours after every meal no matter what I eat solid or soft. A fellow quad I know told me he had similar problems five or six years ago and discovered his small intestine was slowly twisting shut.. Of course that was only after his stomach bloated up hard as a rock and he had to have emergency surgery.
I have a call into Dr. To see what other procedures we can take but I'm losing hope.. Frustrated and at the end of my rope!

I wish I had some helpful advice, but I know little about this sort of thing. I did want to wish you some resolution of the problem, preferably quickly! It sounds very uncomfortable.

I don't blame you for feeling frustrated after all of those tests.
Are there any specialists in your area?

Have you been checked for Celiac disease? Just a thought. I hope you feel better.

A year with that kind of abdominal pain might as well be a lifetime. It's a testament to your character that all you are is frustrated. Many people would have gone postal by now.

What kind of pain is it and where is it located? Have you had any blood workups done in addition to the CTs and colonoscopy?

Two possibilities to explore with your doctors are gall bladder disease and chronic pancreatitis.

I'd start with the latter because your symptoms fit the description so well. I understand from hearing from a few people who have it that it is an exceptionally painful condition -- all of those people said they need relatively high doses of narcotic pain meds to function.

While I hate the thought of you being told that you have a chronic condition like pancreatitis, I hope SOMEONE can accurately diagnose what's going on. Being in limbo and in pain the way you've been for the last year is such a nightmare that finally being able to put a name to your condition feels so good, even if it's bad news. Knowing what it is enables you to finally take steps toward doing something about it.

Please keep us up to date with what you find out. Best wishes that you get both an answer and find a way to manage it.

I have diverticulosis actually had a bleed out scarey and have dealt with the severe stomach pain. I have ticks or pockets in my intestine, but I have learned to live with it. Fiber is really important and I take a metamusel tablet along with a bowl stimulant every evening usually at supper time because my stomach or bowel area makes so many noices at night I can't stand it. Since my injury I have not had much sucess with bowel program. I take this faithfully and so far it has worked.I agree it is really frustrating .

I hope your Dr. can help you, I am only 7 mo post op and can't imagine dealing with this forever..

    Hang in there.

If all tests show nothing wrong try something for neuropathic pain. It can and does manifest in the abdomen/gut region.

Not to jump to the worst case scenario, but have you been tested for cancer? I remember Patrick Swayze saying that was his first indication he had it, he swallowed some wine or something and it caused an horrific pain in his GI.
