    HUNT 68' yacht "SURF"

This is pretty neat, I've been on it while docked.

"Surf" is designed around the requirement for wheelchair access, and the resulting spacious interior and wide decks (even the foredeck is wheelchair-accessible) make her a "pocket megayacht". The side decks, the helm area, the full-width salon and the afterdeck are at the same level, resulting in a sense of spaciousnes unheard of in a boat of this length. Under the afterdeck is a double crew cabin, and forward are two guest staterooms with en suite heads, and a full-width owners' stateroom. Joinery was designed by Niemitz Design group, and built off-site by Mark Richey Woodworking, resulting in a level of finish and detail appropriate to the "pocket megayacht". New England Boatworks' light and rigid hull structure allows a 24-knot top speed with relatively modest power, and the Hunt deep-V assures a soft and dry ride.

NEB built HUNT 68, wheelchair accessible composite built luxury motoryacht.

    PROJECT OVERVIEW
The building of Surf presented NEB with exactly the kind of design, engineering, mechanical/electrical, and all-around problem-solving type of challenge that we love to take on: The Owner asked not only for a state-of-the-art composite-built luxury motoryacht, but the yacht had to be completely accessible and able to be operated from a wheelchair. We achieved the Owner's wishes through a combination of inventive engineering and calling on the nearly unlimited custom fabrication capabilities of our various departments. Everyone at NEB contributed to the concept and the realization of this well thought out and highly-rewarding yacht.

    BUILDER'S NOTES
Surf has numerous unique features, many of them engendered in the process of making the yacht wheelchair-accessible. Here's just a few of them: An elevating swim platform allows easy access to and from the yacht's tender or a dock. An "escalator" companionway accomplishes moving from the salon to the staterooms at the push of a button. The elevating helm station allows complete wheelchair operation of Surf's helm and controls. A specially-equipped "hospital" berth in the master stateroom is designed to handle onboard medical emergencies.

    DESIGNER'S NOTES
Surf's joinery utilized carefully selected Honduras mahogany, finished with high-gloss varnish and offset by white-painted bulkheads -- the classic Herreshoff look. The yacht features a teak-and-holly sole throughout. Accommodations include three staterooms, each with head, and a crew's quarters forward.
