No one there ever seems to know how to manage him.
He finally had some applesauce with his meds and it calmed down.
Just gave him some Lyrica and Ativan as the neuro pain has him nearly in a panic.
Gave him a good suction of clear normal snot.
He can thankfully breath without the vent, but is back on it now. We like to give the lower lobes of lungs a higher volume at night like they taught us at Craig.
The idiot pumonologist here was completely confused and thought the DME (!!!?!)managed it. Even the RTs roll their eyes at him.
I'm not trying to play doctor and won't hesitate to call 911 if I need to. I was putting together a bag in case I did.
I'm a lousey lip reader and the passey muir was bothering him.
And I was NOT breathing. It is true.
I worry about aspiration not to mention skin and everything else and just overwhelmed me.
When he was there in local hosp 09 they only wanted to send him to NH not believing we had equipment at home etc.
Finally the nurses and RTs got behind us and we have been good since.
My fear is once you get in that horrid loop it is hard to escape. They just don't know what to do for someone like him.
Thanks for being there. Typing to possibly no one at least calmed me down a little.
He has eaten pancakes before, not sure if that was the problem.
I try not to do this, but tonight was a night of WHY did my sweetie have to get the high level. Life ain't f^ckin' fair as we know.
sorry to hear everything you went through, hope everything turns out ok
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

I'm going to keep the number you gave me too Tom.
Tomorrow I am calling to talk to someone at Craig for a back up plan Cheesecake.
This morning he still felt miserable and pale. Of course I had to wake aide that was supposed to be here up.
We got him on commode (I just can not do it alone anymore) and relieved some gas, nothing more, but it helped. (sorry for details)
He is staying in bed today and sleeping. I am coughing up a storm and worried he is going to get it.
Now that he is on Medicaid he can't go back to Craig like when had BSBS COBRA. It was the closest place that could take him on a vent.
When he had his SCI he got excellent ICU care here for 6 weeks and Craig was happy with his skin and went on about what a good job our local neurosurgeon did on his neck.
There are good facilities in our community, but not for SCI.
I try to make the best of each day and not let the worries get too far ahead of my mind. Last night was just too awful. It hurts so bad so see him suffer.
    Thanks for listening everyone.

Linda, why does Dave use a cuffed trach? They're incredibly irritating.

Gosh, Linda, I'm sorry that the two of you are going through this. This breathing thing is so scary and life is more fragile than we realize. I hope you can get some good sleep. You're doing a good job for him. Stay on top of things, but don't forget you also need to care for yourself.

Linda, while chad doesn't have a trach, I do understand wanting to just throttle supposed specialists who SHOULD know what to do but but are 100% clue-free. It just makes me want to lay my head down on the desk and cry from frustration. I hope that things improve, and either way, just know that I'm thinking of you. xoxo - Ami
