    Help with Klebsiella UTI PLEASE

Hello all, i have been dealing with a klebsiella uti for quite a longtime now, I have tried every oral antibiotic out there but this infection is going nowhere, all the tests show it is sensitive to cipro, levaquin, penicillin, and other antibiotics, i have taken all of these medicines orally but they do not clear the infection and each time i go to the v.a. they only prescribe more oral medication no matter how many times the medicine does not work they keep on giving it to me,the civillian emergeny rooms all the same, urologist all the same.I am in a lot of pain in both kidneys,it is hard to take a breath because my stomach feels so bloated, very nauseated, blood pressure is pretty high, pounding headache,Please if anyone knows anything else that i can try your help will be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance for your answers

Do you have kidney stones? Do they check your urine after the last dose prescribed?
If the organism is sensitive to the antibiotics, it should kill it.

Been there, done what you have done....and in the end, it took two courses of infused antibiotics to get rid of the infection. I went to an infectious disease specialist to get help. In your post, you didn't say what your bladder program is. Even so, you need to get another specialty involved in you case. Then after you have this thing beat, try the Microcyn/Vetericyn ideas that Donno mentioned.

Get back to us with your bladder protocol.

    All the best,

I have been checked for bladder and kidney stones i don't have either, i am thinking that i need i.v. antibiotic but the problem is that the doctors at v.a. keep passing me around and do not seem to take this infection serious meantime i can't drive or hardly do anything on my own because my kidneys hurt really bad, Yes they check my urine after each time i finish the medicines and the infection is still there, i have noticed even while on the medicines my urine is still very cloudy and have a very strong amonae odor, i cath every 3 or 4 hours, drinks lots of water, cranberry 500 pills, nothing seems to help

I have been down this road with this and a couple of other bugs and I suggest you read all the posts on Vetericyn. You will be badly colinized by this bug and no matter how many antibiotic courses you go on it will keep coming back until you are on IV antibiotics and eventually they wont work.I may sound a bit negitive about your situation but this went on for me for about 2 years before the Vetericyn treatment saved my life,I have no interest in the company what so ever I am just trying to save you from going on the antibiotic round about..........john

Not to beat a dead horse, but the best thing about Microcyn/Vetericyn is that it kills the bugs by breaking their "skin", and they fall apart. Seemingly no way for them to build up resistance, and it does not beat up any of your organs.

My husband has been colonized with Klebsiella for about 1 1/2 years now. He hasn't been symptomatic until lately when he got e.coli in addition. They gave him Macrobid for 2 weeks, which got rid of the e.coli. They did a second round of Macrobid (14 days) without results. His last urinalysis shows that the e.coli is gone, but he has a strain of Klebsiella resistant to all antibiotics, except for one IV antibiotic.

We tried the Microcyn, but Frank experienced bowel problems. Instead diarrhea, his bowels wouldn't move anymore. We had to give him Fleets enemas in order for him to have BMs. Short instill times with the Microcyn (to avoid bowel problems) didn't work. We increased the Microcyn to 150cc per flush, but again needed longer times in the bladder. So, for right now we stopped the Microcyn; he is taking Mandalamine instead, which is definitely helping. His urine is clear most of the time (not crystal); some times it is a little cloudy.

The Infectious Disease Specialist wanted him in the hospital to give him IV antibiotics, but since he isn't symptomatic and the Mandelamine seems to be helping/working, we are keeping the hospital as a last resort.

Maybe it would be wise, since you seem to have a lot of pain, to consult with a Infectious Disease Specialist, before things get worse.

    Good luck to you.

    Hi Alex,

Are you 100% sure that it's the Microcyn causing the constipation? Are you sure that it's not a coincidence or that something other than the Microcyn is causing the GI problems? Other people report that they get diarrhea from it.

I just can't figure out how an antiseptic (not antibiotic) in the bladder can have an effect in the intestines.

    This is a weird one!

    Best wishes,

    Bob.

    Bob,

Once we stopped the Microcyn, the bowels started to normalize again. It took a few days though.

I'll post our experience in full detail on the Microcyn thread.
