Thread: SCI-focused CEUs for nurses?

    Question SCI-focused CEUs for nurses?

SCI-Nurse or anyone who may know--can you recommend any good SCI-focused CEUs that are accessible online?

    Thanks,

    Steven

On-line is difficult. There are several conference that I can recommend which are held annually:

The first is the annual educational meeting for the newly formed Academy of Spinal Cord Injury Professionals (ASCIP). This was formed recently by a merger of the American Assn. of SCI Nurses, American Paralysis Society (physicians), the SCI Therapy Leadership Council, and the American Assn. of SCI Psychologists and Social Workers. It is partially funded by the PVA. This year's meeting was in Las Vegas in September (4 days) and the meeting next year will be in September in Orlando, FL.

Many nurses are members of ASIA (American Spinal Injury Association) which is an interdisciplinary group. They are meeting next in June in Washington DC in a joint meeting with ISCoS (International Spinal Cord Society).

The Association of Rehabilitation Nurses has some on-line educational materials on SCI at their website, and also has some materials for purchase on SCI nursing. There is frequently content presented at their annual meeting as well, which was just held in early October this year. Some of their journal articles offer CE credits (for a fee) and some of these articles are applicable to SCI.

Contemporary Forums (a commercial CE company) offers an annual multiple day conference on SCI care for all disciplines including nursing. They also offer many of these same classes on-line (for a fee).

Rehab Class Works another for-profit educational company offers courses designed to help nurses prepare for certification in rehabilitation nursing (CRRN) and many of these materials are specific to SCI.

This course is a fairly good introductory class by Maureen Habel,RN who was formerly at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehab Hospital SCI Center.

    Thanks KLD!

Off the top of your head, do you know if any exist that focus on SCI and respiratory issues?
